. Nicholas Brewer Thoman, born March 6, 1986, is an American competition swimmer. He specializes in the backstroke. He is also an Olympic gold medalist. As a member the winning United States medley relay team at the FINA World Swimming Championships, he has won two world championships. He held the world record for the 100-meter backstroke (short) from 2009 to 2015. Thoman has won a total ten medals at major international competitions.
